Catholic Counseling Services
The program provides access to affordable counseling services for individuals and their families, especially for those who have limited or no financial resources, and provides support to Archdiocesan schools and parishes, especially in times of crisis. Counseling is available at four sites in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties: Pomona, San Pedro, Venice, and Santa Barbara. Services include pre-marital and marital counseling, group therapy, crisis counseling, domestic violence counseling, assessment, information and referral.
Helping Children Cope With Disaster And Fears: A Guide for Parents, Teachers, and Other Caring Adults
by Edward Nelson, Ph.D. Catholic Counseling Services developed a guide to help caring adults deal with children's reactions to disasters and other terrifying experiences. The guide is offered online in both English and Spanish.

Immigration and Refugee Services
Catholic Immigration Services (CIS)
This program of Immigration and Refugee Services of Catholic Charities provides support and advocacy to individuals and families, helping them to legalize their residency status and to become naturalized citizens. The primary objective is to reunite families by legalizing persons who are residing in the United States without lawful immigration status, and by assisting in the lawful immigration of family members to the United States.
Central Intake Unit (CIU)
CIU provides a full range of employment services to refugees, enabling them to move from welfare dependency to economic self-sufficiency. CIU serves refugees and immigrants from all over the world, therefore 90% of the staff speaks one or more foreign language, including:
Arabic, Armenian, Cambodian (Khmer), Chinese (Chiu-Chow, Cantonese, Mandarin), Farsi, French, Greek, Korean, Russian, Turkish, and Vietnamese.
Refugee Employment Training Program (REP)
REP is a program of the CIU. The services are directed at all refugees who have been in the U.S. for less than five years and who reside in Los Angeles County.
Refugee/Immigrant Training and Employment Program (RITE)
RITE is a program of the CIU. The services are directed to non-English and
non-Spanish speaking refugees and immigrants who have lived in the U.S. for over five years.
Refugee Resettlement Program
This program is administered by Immigration and Refugee Services of Catholic Charities. It was initially established to assist in the resettlement of Hungarian refugees after World War II (specifically, after the failed Hungarian Uprising against the Soviets in 1956). The program helps newly arrived refugees and immigrants resettle in the Los Angeles area, adjust to their new home and achieve economic self-sufficiency. Case management services include airport reception, orientation, financial assistance, assessments, referrals, home visits, tutoring, employment preparation and placement. Many staff members are former refugees themselves. |

Youth Programs
Angel's Flight Runaway & Homeless Youth Services
The program offers street and community outreach, as well as
an emergency shelter for runaway or homeless youth. The Shelter accepts youth, 10-17 years old; services
are provided on a voluntary basis. The goal is to reunite the runaway and homeless youth with their families or to refer them
to safe settings such as a licensed group home or foster care.
Services for residents include food and clothing, medical care, classroom teaching, therapy and recreation. MY CLUB, a program of Angel's Flight,
offers a safe place for youth 10-24 years of age in the high-risk area of South Los Angeles.
Adeste Childcare ProgramThe program provides low-cost before-and-after-school care for children of working parents from low and medium-income families. It is offered at Catholic schools, and some public schools, in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
Catholic Youth Organization (CYO)
CYO was founded in 1936 to serve the complex needs of youth in greater Los Angeles. It is an after-school and weekend athletic program for Catholic elementary and junior high schools throughout Los Angeles County. The organization
promotes and develops good sportsmanship, physical fitness, and ethical values. Numerous athletic activities are available through
the program: football, basketball, track and field, volleyball for boys; football, basketball, volleyball, track and field, drill and cheer leading teams for girls.
Rancho San Antonio
The residential treatment center for adolescent boys, ages 13 to 17, helps them to develop pro-social values,
reunites them with their families and trains them in the skills needed for independent living. Located on beautiful grounds
with a full range of recreational facilities, Rancho San Antonio provides high school education, job training, and personal counseling.

Job/Skills Training
Archdiocesan Youth Employment Service (AYE)
The goal of AYE is to alleviate some of the serious problems facing young people, such as the high school
dropout rate, illiteracy, crime, teen pregnancy, and unemployment. This goal is
achieved through partnerships with employers, community groups and local educational agencies. Services
include: educational and training opportunities; internships
with private and public employers; support services for students continuing their education; and
cultural enrichment, leadership, mentoring and life skills.
Temporary Skilled Worker Program
This program, with offices located in Glendale and Burbank, coordinates jobs for day laborers. |

Services for the Elderly
Older Adult Services and Intervention System (OASIS)
The program provides professional case
management services for older adults, 60 years and older, and volunteer support services that enable older adults to remain independent and avoid premature
or unnecessary institutionalization. The program operates in Guadalupe Community Center in Canoga Park; in five facilities in Ventura County;
and in one location in Santa Barbara County.

Community Services
Community Centers
Establishing neighborhood community centers in the County of Los Angeles began in 1901 with the creation of Brownson House in East Los Angeles. There are numerous centers dispersed through the regions and located in areas of greatest need. The centers provide comprehensive social services as well as emergency assistance to the homeless and very low income individuals and families including: food, clothing, temporary shelter, utilities assistance, transportation, public benefits assistance, job training, employment referrals, medical referrals, and special holiday activities. The goal is to empower people to become more self-sufficient and independent.
Community Services Thrift Stores
The Thrift Stores managed by the Catholic Charities have the primary objective of providing immediate access to
affordable and quality clothing and miscellaneous household goods to the community, especially to the homeless and low-income individuals and families. Clients of
community centers receive these items for free. The stores are primarily staffed by volunteers and the items they offer
are donations from individuals and businesses.

Shelters
Emergency Housing
The emergency housing program of Catholic Charities is managed by Regions where the shelters are located.
The program offers a wide range of services to address the needs of the homeless,
including emergency shelters for individuals, families, and mothers with children. Services are provided to
the unemployed, victims of domestic violence, and those who are
mentally ill. In addition to offering safe housing, medical care and education for children, the program is designed to help the homeless to return to independent living,
through counseling, information, skills training, referral to other agencies, and follow-up services.
