In Memory of Vin Scully, Nov. 29, 1927 – August 2, 2022

Catholic Charities of Los Angeles is grateful for the kindness of Vin Scully, who supported our agency over the years and who offered congratulations for our Centennial Celebration in October of 2019. The following are some of his remarks on that occasion:

It’s not time for Dodger baseball. It’s time to offer Congratulations to Catholic Charities of Los Angeles on the occasion of its 100th Anniversary!

That’s even more years than my 67-year career in baseball!

For the past Century, Catholic Charities has been one of the largest social service providers in the three-county area of Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara, California.

The agency delivers over 800,000 services to an average of 100,000 unduplicated individuals each year, many of whom are children and seniors.

Catholic Charities’ many programs include homeless shelters, community food pantries, teen crisis centers, programs for pregnant and parenting youth, job training and employment support, assistance to the frail and elderly, affordable psychological services, afterschool care, homework assistance and tutoring, and immigration and refugee services.

And these services are offered regardless of the clients’ race, ethnicity, income, gender or religious belief.

So, as I expressed in my final sign-off as a Dodger broadcaster, “May God give you (Catholic Charities), for every storm, a rainbow; for every tear, a smile; for every care, a promise; and a blessing in each trial. For every problem life seems, a faithful friend to share; for every sigh, a sweet song, and an answer for each prayer…So, this is Vin Scully wishing you a pleasant good evening, wherever you may be.”

May the Beloved Vin Scully Rest In Peace.
